6 Great tips on how to write a great resume

#1 Don’t spend much time on design.

You must not completely focus on the design of your resume because the content is the key. Instead, pay more attention to how you craft the Contact information, the latest two or three responsibilities, education, and hobbies. You can also divide the page into headings, use bullet points if you like, and make the one-page document as easy to read as possible. Even, it doesn’t matter the type of font you use, whether the paper has a denser weave and all the details from your last project.

#2. Avoid hiding obvious things.

Don’t state you have worked before when you have never had a real jo. Or don’t hide your poor GPA because hiding it will most likely guarantee your resume being thrown aside. This is because it shows that you think the reviewers are stupid enough not to realize that your grades are missing. Hence to avoid pissing off your reviewer, you shouldn’t hide your GPA or contact details.

#3. Ensure it does not exceed a page

When your resume is longer than one page, It increases the chances of having the document tossed and discarded in the bin. To be brief and concise is more in this situation. Creating a resume that is one page indicates conciseness and clarity. Always avoid irrelevant details and go straight to the point.

#4. Customize your resume

Do not use general templates for all your applications. Instead, it’s essential to customize your resume to suit the job you’re applying for. It is necessary to emphasize the specific skills, qualities, and experience that you have that would benefit your new employer.

#5. Make your resume stand out.

Making your resume unique is one way to get attention and responses from prospective employers. When you send out a couple of your resume without getting any answers, it’s wise to go back to the drawing board and do things differently. Maybe your profile picture is not attractive enough, or the color of your resume is not catchy. Whatever the reasons, having a resume that is not generic can help get the attention of the recruiter.

#6. Use a suitable format

Choosing a resume format that works for you is Important. The three types of format commonly used are;

  • Combination
  • Functional or Skills-based
  • Reverse-chronological

However, the most commonly used format is Reverse-chronological. This is because it is easy to use with the layout. However, it’s advisable to avoid using the functional resume format, because it kills your experience section.

Conclusion

These five tips above-mentioned can help create a standard resume. A standard resume can boost your chances of getting an interview with your recruiter. A bad resume is a big turn off as most people see it as a way to gauge whether you’re fit or not for a given job.

If you’re unable to express yourself properly on paper, then how can you possibly be a good fit for the job you want. That is why it’s advisable to take time to craft that resume, which can secure you an interview and a good job.
